凝聚態物理學家。1938年7月出生於江蘇省揚州市。1960年畢業於復旦大學物理系。2013年當選中國科學院院士。 復旦大學教授。

主要從事統計物理和凝聚態理論研究,近年着重將凝聚態物理和高分子化學相結合,研究有機光電功能的機理。曾解析求得相變理論中的臨界指數 δ =7,並表明其能滿足全部七個Scaling等式;與合作者預言了孤子存在一類新的振動模,後來得到實驗證實;發展了寬能帶的 π 電子關聯理論,澄清了高分子「共軛結構」產生原因的爭論;提出高分子具有「光致極化反轉」、自旋載子的「光致電荷變號」等一系列獨特的光電功能。
