鋼和泰

鋼和泰（Alexander von Staël-Holstein，1877年－1937年），波羅的海德國人，俄國男爵，漢學家、梵語學者。後寓居中國燕京，任教於北京大學，著名學者陳寅恪與胡適都曾跟從鋼和泰學習梵文。

生平
出生於愛沙尼亞貴族家庭：父親奧古斯都·馮·鋼和泰男爵，與傑曼·德·斯戴爾有親戚關係；母親卡特琳娜·馮·德爾帕荷倫。少年即學習德語和法語。1886年被送到愛沙尼亞小鎮派爾努的高級文科中學讀書。
1896年到柏林大學師從韋伯和葛爾德納，學習梵文和波斯祆教古經。1897年繼承爵位，任聖彼得堡大學助理梵文教授。1917年帝俄被推翻之後，流亡中國。
1918年至1929年期間曾任教北京大學，寓居東交民巷，精通梵文、藏文，能熟練運用梵文、藏文和漢文研究《大寶積經》。1923年胡適翻譯鋼氏著《音譯梵書與中國古音》一文，發表在《國學季刊》。1926年出版《大寶積經大迦葉品梵藏漢六種合刊》，引起國際印度學界的矚目。陳寅恪在清華大學任教時，每逢星期六的上午，要進城到東郊民巷與鋼和泰學習梵文。[1]陳寅恪稱其：「學問不博，然而甚精」。1928年，前往劍橋大學，同年，被聘為哈佛中國語言文學訪問講師。1929年9月就任中亞語文學教授（Professor of Central Asian Philology），同年返回北平。與奧爾嘉·馮·格瑞夫結婚。1936年夏曾訪問日本，因健康惡化返回北平。
1937年2月因病就醫，血壓高達三百二十度，3月16日去世於德國醫院。[2]
